With book 1 in the Skylight series now seeking an Agent and/or Publisher, the reality that I'll have to write the second and concluding book is really setting in. I decided Skylight would be a duology before I'd even finished the first book, and while I know the basics of how the plot unfolds and reaches its end, I haven't thought out the smaller details. I've never been a planner. Every time I've tried to map out a book, the story defers from my plans almost immediately. Most of the fun of writing for me is sitting down, knowing where I'm going with the story, but having to figure out how it's going to get there.
I've never written a sequel before. It's nerve wracking knowing that people will soon set out on Emmy's journey and (hopefully) feel some attachment to these characters and this world. There's a certain responsibility now that I've never had before, to give those that wind up caring about Skylight both what they want and what the story deserves. While I do think the first book is a solid entity on its own, in a way, it's still only half of a whole. As always, I'm getting ahead of myself - worrying about the responsibilities of a sequel before the first is even in print. I've been talking about this book for well over a year, and I appreciate all of you who have expressed interest and also been so patient with me. Books are a long process - who would've thunk it? It's a fun story, and I really look forward to sharing it with you. The second I have a solid idea of when I can get it in to your hands, you will know. |
